Affirmations for counseling: Moving away from toxic positivity
Updated: Jun 15
I've seen the term toxic positivity around more during this year than in prior ones. This increase in awareness might be that the covid-19 pandemic, and the awareness of racism among non-Black people have helped us reframe our ideas of a "healthy" and "positive" mindset. Another reason might be that we are tired of being bombarded with "just feel better" concepts that are not fully helpful in supporting our emotional wellbeing. In this video, I address the idea of engaging clients in reality-based affirmations as a way of moving away from toxic positivity.
